Closer everyday...

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, we were sick from last Monday til Friday (Christmas Eve). Not all of us at once, but we passed it from one person to the next. Val had it first then I wrapped it up and we were all better by Christmas (Thank You, Jesus!!)

So Hayden is doing excellent and I am not exaggerating when I say that! He weighs 5 lbs. and has recovered from surgery very well. He is no longer on the ventilator and shows no signs of infection, and he will be off antibiotics by tomorrow or maybe Wednesday morning. He's up to "full feeds"--eating the amount of food that he should for his size. He seems to be tolerating the feedings through the tube very well and hasn't had the reflux issues since the surgery.

We really are just waiting to make sure he keeps tolerating the feedings, then we'll room in at the hospital with him for one night and then we'll be able to take him home. (We're "secretly" hoping for Thursday or Friday).

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Love you all!

Surgery tomorrow

Ok, surgery is set for tomorrow...not sure what time yet, but it is supposed to be sometime tomorrow. Keep us in your prayers tomorrow and the rest of the week as Hayden recovers.

Pray for Valerie too...she was sick last night all night, so please pray that she's done being sick so we don't have to be away from Hayden tomorrow. We'll do what we have to, but it will be hard if we have to split up between the kiddos on surgery day.

Love you all & we'll keep you posted on how his surgery goes!

Blessings,
Tim & Rachel

Tentative Schedule

Hi everyone! Hayden's weight is continuing to increase and he's now weighing in at 4 lbs. 14 oz.!!!

The tentative plan is for his surgery to be on Tuesday and that will depend on how his white blood count is on Monday. They plan to have to give him a blood transfusion so that his red count and hemoglobin levels will not be an issue.

Please pray for the surgeon and his team on Tuesday! I'll let you know if the plan changes...as we know it certainly can! :) Since he won't be operated on until at least Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday or Thursday if there are an glitches in the plan, we most likely will not have him home for Christmas...it takes a couple days for recovery with him receiving only fluids through an IV to keep him nourished and hydrated. Then it will take 2-3 more days for him to get up to "full feeds" which means he is taking the full amount he should be through the feeding tube. The day before we go home, Tim and I will be "rooming in", or staying at a room in the NICU so that we can have help when we need it, but we will have to do everything as if we were at home. That should be interesting considering we will have been in the hospital scene for over a month and we are so used to the help...but we can do it (God's gonna be in on that for sure) :) So we're looking at sometime early next week and hoping that everything goes well so we can get our baby boy home!!!!

Surgery Postponed

Hello everyone! Surgery for Hayden was postponed until Monday, possibly Tuesday. He was showing some signs of a slight infection, so the docs thought it best to wait to do surgery. He is doing so good, being a brave, strong boy through all the bloodwork and testing they are doing. They are going to keep an eye on him and see how he does through the weekend and hopefully we'll be updating you on his recovery status early this coming week! :) Thanks for the prayers!!

The Great Physician

Psalm 41:3~The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.

We know that God is nursing Hayden and will restore his health. Please pray as we transfer to Children's Mercy that we will receive information that will help us make wise decisions regarding Hayden's health. May God's will be done as we all seek to know what His will is. We know God is good and takes care of His children.
